Following two decades of steady increases in consumption throughout the 1980s and 1990s, final energy consumption in the UK has been on a decreasing trend since the turn of the century. Since 1970 final energy consumption in the industrial sector has been decreasing. Over the same time period consumption in the transport sector has been increasing.
